Use time rounding
Sandtime.io can present reported time in rounded intervals without changing the underlying activity history. The original times stay exactly as they were recorded, so turning rounding on and off again is safe.
Turn it on
Open Settings, go to Time tracking, and open the Time rounding section. Only an Administrator can change these settings; everyone else sees the current policy as a read-only summary.
Modes and intervals
Pick one mode:
- Round to nearest - the closest interval boundary, in either direction
- Round up to - always the next boundary up
- Round down to - always the previous boundary down
Then pick an interval: 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or a custom number of minutes. Rounding is off by default, and the default interval is 15 minutes.
What each mode does
With a 5 minute interval:
- Round to nearest: 1:26 becomes 1:25, and 1:14 becomes 1:15.
- Round up to: 1:26 becomes 1:30, and 1:14 becomes 1:15.
- Round down to: 1:26 becomes 1:25, and 1:14 becomes 1:10.
Spotting a rounded value
Wherever a value has been rounded, Sandtime.io shows a small arrow next to it - pointing up when the value was rounded up, down when it was rounded down. Hover the arrow to see the exact rounding difference in minutes.
Rounded values appear on the dashboard, in timesheets, and in reports.
Recommendation
Agree on the rounding policy at the organization level before billing or payroll depends on it. Because rounding only changes presentation, you can revisit the decision later without losing anything.
