How to read the working-hour totals

The calendar covers holidays common to all German states. Regional holidays must be added for the state where the team works. This Monday-to-Friday planning scenario is not the six-day statutory framework used to assess working-time limits.

Count the selected working weekdays, subtract the included holidays that fall on those days, then multiply the remaining days by daily hours. Each holiday date is counted once. A holiday on a day you already exclude does not reduce the total again. Legal reductions and official substitute days follow their own rules.

Local working-calendar questions and examples

Why can German working days differ between states in 2026?

The national baseline uses holidays shared by all Länder. Additional holidays depend on the workplace’s state and sometimes locality. A team in Bavaria and a team in Berlin can therefore have different available dates. Use the regional holiday calendar rather than applying the national annual total unchanged to every office.

Does Germany’s eight-hour rule define an annual 2026 requirement?

No. Section 3 ArbZG sets an eight-hour working-day limit, extendable to ten when the statutory averaging condition is met. It does not turn this Monday-Friday calendar into a statutory annual total. Contracted hours, the applicable agreement, regional holidays and the actual schedule still determine the employee’s plan.

How does a regional holiday change a German project budget?

Suppose the workplace calendar adds one non-working Thursday to a month that the national baseline treats as available. For a Monday-Friday employee working eight hours daily, reduce that month’s project capacity by eight hours. Apply the change only to affected workplaces and employees; keep client deadlines and other offices on their own calendars.

Do October 3 and December 26 remove weekdays in Germany in 2026?

Both fall on Saturday in 2026, so they do not remove another Monday-Friday date from this calendar. If Saturday is scheduled, they affect that scenario instead. Do not import Poland’s Saturday reduction into the German table. Any separate compensation or contractual arrangement needs its own check; this calculation only counts available dates.

How should German part-time or compressed weeks use the calculator?

Enter the actual weekdays and planned hours per day. Working four longer days is not the same calendar as five shorter days with the same weekly total: holidays can fall on different scheduled dates. The resulting number is capacity, not confirmation that a compressed schedule meets daily limits, rest rules or the employment agreement.

A planning total is not a universal legal annual requirement. Contracts, collective agreements, regions, sectors and actual working schedules can change the result. Record personal leave and company closures separately, and check the country’s working-time rules before using a calendar for payroll.

Which months have the most and least working hours in 2026?

The 2026 calendar for Germany has a highest monthly total of 184 hours (July). The lowest is 144 hours (May). The difference is 40 hours per full-time person before leave, absences and company closures.

Compare delivery commitments by available hours, not by the number of months. Two equally priced monthly retainers can require different staffing when one month has fewer working days. Keep the calendar assumptions fixed, then adjust for each person’s schedule and approved leave before promising project capacity.

From October’s hours to a realistic project budget

Illustrative example for October 2026: start with 176 hours, reserve 16 hours for two scheduled days of approved leave and 24 hours for internal work. That leaves 136 hours for project allocation. It is a planning budget, not a promise that every remaining hour is billable or a record of hours actually worked.

Before the month begins, assign capacity to projects. During the month, keep actual project hours separately. At close, compare planned capacity with recorded work and approved absences; explain the differences before preparing client reports. A national calendar cannot replace either the employee’s schedule or the project record.

2026 versus 2027: compare the hours month by month

An unchanged annual total can hide a different monthly workload. Compare matching months before reusing a staffing or delivery budget for 2027. This table uses the same daily hours and weekday assumptions in both years; regional and employer-specific calendars still need their own adjustments.
