Historical Rate Tracking That Stays Accurate
When rates change, past reports should not. Sandtime.io remembers every rate by period so historical costs and revenues are always correct.

What you get with temporal cost and revenue rates
Rate history
Define rates for specific time periods. Past reports automatically use the rate that was active then, not the current one.
Employee rate changes
Update a team member’s rate without breaking historical reports. Raises and renegotiations don’t corrupt past data.
Accurate past reports
Re-run any report for a previous period and get correct cost and revenue figures. No manual corrections needed.
Per-project rates
Different projects can have different billing rates for the same person at the same time. Reflects how real agency billing works.
Audit trail
Every rate change is recorded with a start date. Finance teams can audit the full rate history at any time.
Automatic calculations
Costs and revenues are calculated automatically based on hours logged and the applicable rate for each period.
Who uses temporal rates
- Agencies with annual rate reviews who need accurate historical reports
- Consultants renegotiating client rates mid-project
- HR teams tracking cost basis changes over time
- Finance audits requiring period-accurate labor cost data
Temporal rate questions
What makes a rate temporal?
It carries the dates it applies to. Instead of one rate that silently rewrites history when it changes, each period keeps the rate that was in force at the time.
What happens when someone gets a raise?
You add a new rate starting on the effective date. Work before that date keeps its old cost, so past margins stay as they were reported.
Can two rates overlap?
No. Overlapping periods are rejected when rates are saved, so any given day resolves to exactly one rate.
Does this apply to both cost and revenue rates?
Yes. Both carry their own periods, so a change on either side is recorded with the date it takes effect.
