Overtime pay$187.50
Double-time pay$0.00

This is gross pay before tax and deductions. Overtime rules and rates vary by country, contract, and employer.

How overtime pay is calculated

Regular pay is your rate times regular hours. Overtime and double-time hours are paid at the rate times their multiplier, usually one-and-a-half and double. Adding them together gives total gross pay.

Getting the hours right is the hard part. Sandtime.io records regular and overtime hours as work happens, so pay and approvals rest on a real record.

Overtime pay questions

How do I calculate overtime pay?

Multiply the hourly rate by the overtime multiplier, then by the overtime hours. At a rate of 20 and the usual one-and-a-half multiplier, each overtime hour pays 30.

What is the difference between time-and-a-half and double time?

Time-and-a-half pays 1.5 times the hourly rate and is the common rate for hours past the weekly threshold. Double time pays twice the rate and is usually reserved for holidays, seventh consecutive days, or the longest shifts.

Can I use a multiplier other than 1.5 or 2?

Both multipliers are yours to set. Change them to match the rule that applies to you, whether that is a national law, a collective agreement, or a contract term.

Does the total include tax?

No. The result is gross pay, before income tax, social contributions, and any other deduction, so the amount that reaches a bank account is lower.
