Working Time Rules: Pakistan

Pakistan: working hours, holiday calendars and annual leave rules for practical workforce planning.

This is a general overview, not legal advice. Limits, reference periods, exceptions, and record-keeping duties vary by sector and contract and change over time. Confirm the current rules with the official source and a qualified adviser.

Minimum annual leave14 consecutive days: factory-law referenceSection 49B of the published Factories Act reference provides fourteen consecutive days after twelve months of continuous factory service, including weekly rest days. This is not fourteen additional working days for every Pakistani employee. Check the current provincial instrument and establishment category before applying the reference to an office team.Source

Statutory working time

Pakistan’s federal holiday notices and provincial employment rules serve different purposes. The calculator starts with five eight-hour days; this does not establish a legal working week for every workplace. Factory, shop and office coverage must be checked for the province. Add any required substitute or compensatory days to the actual schedule.

What to check before you rely on this

  • The current statutory limits, reference periods, and any opt-outs.
  • Sector or collective-agreement rules that may override the defaults.
  • How overtime is authorised, recorded, and compensated.
  • What working-time records you must keep and for how long.
