Working Time Rules: Myanmar

Myanmar: working hours, holiday calendars and annual leave rules for practical workforce planning.

This is a general overview, not legal advice. Limits, reference periods, exceptions, and record-keeping duties vary by sector and contract and change over time. Confirm the current rules with the official source and a qualified adviser.
Working week used in calculations40 hours per week8 hours a day over 5 days
Minimum annual leave10 days, subject to eligibilityThe ILO guide describes ten days of earned annual leave after twelve months of continuous service under the Leave and Holidays Act. Eligibility, accrual and employee coverage matter; casual leave and sick leave are separate. Check current local rules and the employee’s service record rather than treating ten days as an automatic deduction from every calendar.Source

Statutory working time

Myanmar has separate working-time provisions for factories and shops or establishments. An office schedule must not be inferred from the factory rules. Change the selected weekdays and daily hours to match the employment contract. The default five-day table is a planning aid, and does not decide overtime, breaks or holiday pay.

What to check before you rely on this

  • The current statutory limits, reference periods, and any opt-outs.
  • Sector or collective-agreement rules that may override the defaults.
  • How overtime is authorised, recorded, and compensated.
  • What working-time records you must keep and for how long.
