Timer

The timer is the built-in one-click stopwatch in Sandtime.io. It lets you start tracking time instantly - no typing required - and saves the resulting activity entry automatically to today's timesheet when you stop it.

Where to Find It

The timer is always accessible from the dashboard home screen. You will also find it at the top of the Timesheets view, so you can start it without navigating away from your current week.

How It Works

  1. Click Start on the timer.
  2. Select a project (you can also add this after stopping).
  3. Click Stop when you finish.

The entry appears immediately in your timesheet for today, with the start time, end time, and duration filled in automatically.

What Happens If You Forget to Stop It

The timer keeps running until you explicitly stop it. If you forget, the entry will show an ever-growing duration. You can stop it at any point and then edit the end time manually to reflect when you actually finished. Sandtime.io never discards a running timer entry - it stays saved as a draft until you stop it.

Timer vs. Manual Entry

The timer auto-fills the time range based on when you clicked Start and Stop. A manual entry lets you pick any past date and type the start and end times yourself - useful for logging time you forgot to track in real time. Both methods create the same kind of activity record in your timesheet; they only differ in how the time range is captured.

For full step-by-step instructions, see How to use the built-in timer.

  • Activity - the individual time entry created when you stop the timer
  • Timesheet - where timer entries are saved
  • Dashboard - where the timer lives on the home screen
  • Project - the project you assign the timer entry to
